The series shifted its perspective from a side-scroller to a first-person shooter, receiving plenty of critical and commercial success for rejuvenating the series at a stage where side-scrolling Metroid games were mostly absent from gaming. Metroid Prime was first released for the GameCube in 2002, and has since seen the Metroid Prime Trilogy ported over to Nintendo Wii in 2009. It’s possible that Nintendo will announce this rumoured Metroid Prime re-release at the event, or possibly the entire trilogy remastered, though fans aren’t hopeful for Metroid Prime 4 just yet.

There has been a lot of excitement surrounding today’s Nintendo Direct event, which will run around 40 minutes and feature updates on games releasing for Nintendo Switch in the coming months and hopefully beyond.
